Environmental Health & Safety Manager
About the role
At BWX Technologies, Inc., we are seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs. The EHS Manager will be responsible for managing a team of safety engineers and technicians at our Advanced Technologies Office in Lynchburg, VA.
Responsibilities
- Establish strategic direction regarding EHS for the Advanced Technologies organization.
- Manage a comprehensive EHS management system and compliant programs.
- Remain abreast of local, state, and federal safety and environmental legislation to ensure compliance and act as intermediaries with regulatory bodies.
- Monitor facility activities, assess risk, and recommend measures or actions to ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with standards.
- Provide oversight of changes within facility incorporating OSHA, DEQ NFPA, and ANSI code requirements as applicable.
- Effectively communicate and provide consultation and guidance to all levels of management and shop personnel.
- Develop and maintain EHS policies and procedures.
- Monitor and assess facility activities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Lead incident reviews and investigations.
- Maintain required documentation and prepare and submit EHS reports as necessary.
- Oversee EHS training programs.
- Oversee hazardous waste management program.
- Support other BWXT locations as requested.
- Manage the activities of the site Radiation Safety Officer under a limited scope license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Requirements
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in industrial safety, environmental safety, or industrial hygiene (or equivalent) is required.
- At least five (5) years of experience in a management or supervisory role is required.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of EHS safety experience is required.
- Must have superior written, oral, and interpersonal communications.
- Must be able to handle and maintain confidential information and materials.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and/or Department of Defense (DoD) clearance, whichever is required.
Qualifications
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is preferred.

Pay
The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $99,410.00 and $157,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
