About the role
We are seeking a responsible and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager in our Lawrence, KS location.
Responsibilities
- Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments.
- Plans, implements, and conducts preventative care, safety, and compliance training programs.
- Prioritizes, plans, and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT).
- Performs and maintains record of job hazard analysis, ergonomic risk assessments, industrial hygiene testing and trainings.
- Provides project management team with guidance on health and safety and confirm project site complies with industry, local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.
- Collaborates with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan and serve as primary contact for project site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management. Maintains a written log of safety inspection activities, reports, and correspondence.
- Oversees the Workers Compensation program to include; case management with medical providers and insurance representatives.
- Lead and maintain the ISO14001:2015 environmental management system (EMS), ensure all nonconformances are addressed, and continually improve the EMS.
- Lead sustainability initiatives and improvements including energy, water, and waste reduction projects.
- Controls all hazardous material and personal protective equipment programs.
- Facilitates the maintenance and operation of all fire protection equipment/systems and ensure compliance with property insurance and NFPA standards.
- Guarantees that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals, internal policies and procedures, contract documents, and good engineering practices.
- Develops protocols that assure newly installed or modified production equipment meets all safety standards prior to releasing equipment to production.
- Manages plant safety audits and initiates corrective actions as needed.
- Oversees the drug screening program, to include quarterly random screenings and post injury protocols.
- Provides technical support to operations to include safety training for all equipment and project management assistance.
- Oversees and manages all asset protection.
- Operational Excellence and GEMBA requirements including participation in planning, meeting attendance, and other activities.
- Manages a fleet of two company SUV vehicles, to include screening drivers, tracking use, and overseeing all vehicle maintenance.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in plant operations, safety management, or a related field required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a production and/or manufacturing environment.
- Safety Certification from a reputable organization such as the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), or the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) preferred.
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR required.
- Experience with the ISO14001:2015 environmental management system (EMS).
- Bachelor's degree in people-related subjects such as Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of Federal and State health and safety laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and several other software platforms (Navigator is a plus).
- Additional preferred certifications include: OSHA, 30-hour Construction Safety and Industry Standards plus familiarity with DOE 10 CFR Part 851.
