About the role
As an Environmental & Sustainability Manager at Zekeman Industries, located in Chicagoland area in IL, you will play a key role in supporting environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives across facilities in the United States and Canada.
Responsibilities
- Support and manage environmental projects including air permitting, pollution control equipment, storm water, industrial process water, and waste management programs.
- Conduct site audits, inspections, and fieldwork to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company standards.
- Develop improvement plans and coordinate environmental testing, sampling, and analysis activities.
- Prepare technical documentation, internal reports, and external regulatory correspondence.
- Cookordinate and manage consultants and contractors to ensure compliance with project requirements and environmental standards.
- Participate in technical meetings, prepare reports and presentations, and support regulatory inspections and communications.
- Maintain environmental records, monitoring data, and compliance documentation to ensure accurate reporting.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to support continuous compliance of permitted systems.
- Provide training and guidance on environmental compliance, pollution prevention, and sustainability practices.
- Support environmental incident response activities, including spills and other emergencies.
- Develop and support training programs and track completion through the learning management system.
- Lead sustainability initiatives and implement waste reduction and cost-saving measures.
- Lead and promote healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and Company policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 4–5 years of experience managing environmental and regulatory compliance in a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental regulations, including air emissions, hazardous waste, NPDES, and industrial water discharge.
- Strong understanding of environmental monitoring, mitigation, and compliance practices.
- Able to analyze environmental data, perform calculations, and present findings effectively.
- Experience working with environmental permitting, reporting, and regulatory agencies.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects across different locations.
- Able to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across teams and with external stakeholders.
- Experience leading or supervising team members preferred.
- Able and willing to travel to multiple facilities across the U.S. and Canada (25–50%).
- Able to maintain regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance.
