About the Role
Safety, quality, and profitability go hand in hand at Lee Spring — none of them works without the other two. This is a hands-on, plant-floor-present role for the company's first dedicated EHS professional. You'll take a safety program with solid foundations and real momentum and build it into a system that's woven into daily operating decisions at every level, not bolted on to satisfy a regulator. Compliance is the natural byproduct of that culture, not the goal itself. You will work directly with operations leadership, press operators, machinists, and chemical process personnel.
Responsibilities
- Compliance & Regulatory Management:
- Own the company's overall OSHA, EPA compliance strategy and serve as the primary point of contact for OSHA inspections, agency inquiries, and regulatory correspondence.
- Maintain OSHA 300/300A logs, manage recordkeeping and annual electronic submission requirements.
- Ensure all required permits, registrations, and compliance filings are current and submitted on time.
- Stay current on changes to OSHA 29 CFR 1910, and EPA regulations; build positive working relationships with agencies and help local leadership stay ahead of state-specific requirements.
- Safety Program Development & Maintenance:
- Develop and maintain written safety programs including Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, PPE, Emergency Action Plan, Hearing Conservation, and Respiratory Protection.
- Build the company's Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) methodology and templates; train plant leadership to conduct and maintain them locally.
- Set equipment inspection standards and audit local teams' execution.
- Build the chemical safety program and coordinate chemical waste disposal.
- Machine Guarding & Engineering Controls:
- Evaluate point-of-operation guarding on powered presses and document guarding decisions using formal hazard assessment methodology.
- Partner with engineering and operations to specify guards, fixtures, light curtains, and pull-back devices.
- Support press die change safety procedures and guarding reviews for new operations or tooling.
- Training & Culture:
- Design EHS training curricula and lead investigations for significant incidents.
- Build a proactive safety culture through visible floor presence and open communication.
- Establish and support a Safety Committee structure at each site.
- Environmental Management:
- Own the chemical waste disposal program, hazardous waste manifesting, and EPA/state reporting.
- Ensure wastewater discharge compliance and air emissions compliance.
- Multi-Plant Oversight:
- Travel to facilities to audit, train, investigate incidents, and calibrate consistency.
- Coach plant managers and supervisors to maintain EHS performance.
- Continuous Improvement & Management Systems:
- Support standardized operational and management system practices.
- Assist with future EMS initiatives and audit readiness.
