- Have or are eager to develop a keen eye for detail when reviewing projects involving water sources, storage, transmission, distribution, pumping, and treatment systems.
- Thrive in a multidisciplinary environment and enjoy discussing hydraulics, treatment chemistry, funding, public health, and environmental justice.
- Value collaboration and communicate clearly with both internal teams and external partners.
- Are patient and supportive when providing technical and regulatory assistance to water systems and their consultants.
- Are self-motivated, take initiative, and care deeply about making a difference.
Requirements
- A foundation in drinking water planning, treatment, and distribution, whether from coursework, internships, or professional experience.
- The ability, or developing ability, to critically review engineering drawings, specifications, and reports with attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with sound judgment and professional tact.
- Interest in professional growth; we actively support pursuit of engineering licensure, training, and collaborative opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental, sanitary, chemical, water resources, civil, or mechanical engineering or a related field and three or more years of experience in a related engineering field.
- OR one year or more of experience as an Environmental Engineer V or two years or more as an Environmental Engineer IV.
Work Environment
- Duties are largely performed in an office setting; some field travel may be necessary (private transportation required).
- Fieldwork may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous waste, construction sites, and all weather conditions, including rough terrain and bodies of water.
- Occasional work outside regular hours, including attendance at public meetings.
- Strong differences of opinion may be encountered regularly.
Benefits
The Agency of Natural Resources and Drinking Water Program offers:
- A hybrid work model.
- Field site visits during sanitary surveys.
- Mentorship and support toward achieving a PE license.
- Broad exposure across the full drinking water field—sources, treatment, storage, and distribution—to build technical range quickly.
- A mission-driven, supportive team committed to technical excellence and public service.
