Environmental Engineer – Mid/Senior Level – Remediation Focus (Hybrid)
About the role
Barr is seeking a senior environmental engineer to join our Bismarck team. This hybrid role supports the Assessment and Remediation business unit. Work assignments may include managing multidisciplinary teams, preparing technical work plans and reports, coordinating ASTM Phase I environmental site assessments, investigating contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor intrusion, conducting remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies, developing site management strategies, remedial design, and response action plans, preparing cost estimates and contracting for investigation activities, developing proposals, scopes of work, and budgets, conducting communications, meetings, and negotiations with clients and regulatory agency personnel, providing overall project management, and mentoring junior staff.
Responsibilities

- Communicate clearly and confidently with clients, regulators, and project partners
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and regulators through proactive communication, teamwork, and a client-focused approach to problem-solving and project delivery
Requirements
- Apply environmental engineering expertise to investigate contaminated soil, groundwater, sediment, and vapor and to develop and implement effective remediation strategies, feasibility studies, and site management plans
- Oversee complex project scopes, schedules, and budgets while coordinating fieldwork, managing contractors, and ensuring deliverables meet quality standards and client expectations
- Evaluate environmental data and site-specific conditions to design practical, tailored solutions that meet technical objectives and regulatory requirements
- Prepare clear, technically sound reports, work plans, and proposals
- Engage confidently in meetings and negotiations with clients, regulators, and project partners
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and regulators through proactive communication, teamwork, and a client-focused approach to problem-solving and project delivery
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental, civil, geological, or chemical engineering or a related discipline
- Experience: 8 or more years of relevant experience
- Licenses/Certifications: Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to become registered within one year
- Software: Strong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets. Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite
- Driver’s License: Possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Pay
Ancillary to the job description, Barr anticipates a salary range of $80,000–$125,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance.
