About the role

The role involves conducting hazardous material inspections in compliance with state and federal regulations. This includes ensuring warehouses have completed required trainings, established emergency response plans, and maintain accurate hazardous materials inventory.

Responsibilities

• Conducts scheduled and random hazardous material inspections at warehouses and enforces compliance with local ordinances and federal regulations.
• Ensures warehouses complete required DOT Training Requirements for Hazardous Material Employees (49 CFR 172 Subpart H).
• Ensures Emergency Response Plans (ERP) are established and properly maintained.
• Maintains Hazardous Materials Inventory accuracy and updates as needed.
• Enforces illegal dumping and discharge regulations and ordinances.
• Reviews and enforces the Commercial Litter Prevention Plan, state, and federal regulations.
• Will be required to drive City vehicle for city business use.
• Performs related work as required.

Requirements

• Knowledge of city and state ordinances regarding environmental enforcement.
• Knowledge of training topics required by DOT.
• Knowledge of 49 CFR 172 requirements.
• Knowledge of Emergency Response Plans, including processes and protocols.
• Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including computers and applicable software, such as Haztrac.
• Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• At least five (5) years of experience in solid waste operations, environmental science, enforcement, law enforcement, investigations, or hazmat.
