About the role
This is skilled work in securing and maintaining compliance with the approved plans, County and national codes and regulations governing stormwater management and erosion and sediment control in construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Conducts soil erosion and sedimentation control and stormwater construction inspections;
- Conducts construction meetings;
- Makes minor field adjustments in plans;
- Investigates complaints and code violations;
- Performs stormwater management construction and monitoring inspections of stormwater management practices for subdivisions, single-family dwellings, and facilities;
- Advises contractors, land owners, and others regarding soil erosion and stormwater codes and regulations;
- Affords assistance in the review of applications and issues permits;
- Investigates possible or actual problems and complaints;
- Initiates corrective actions;
- Prepares written inspection reports as per County Code and maintains necessary records and reports;
- Attends seminars.
Requirements
- Two or more years of experience in erosion control practices and infrastructure installations or a related field;
- A Maryland certificate in training for erosion control or ability to obtain the certificate within six months of hire;
- A valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school, including or supplemented by courses in plan reading.
Skills
- Knowledge of soil erosion and sedimentation control methods and stormwater management practices;
- Knowledge of construction methods and procedures;
- Ability to inspect complex construction projects for compliance with stormwater management practices as well as soil and erosion control regulations;
- Ability to read, review, interpret, and evaluate complex grading and construction plans;
- Ability to enforce and interpret regulations with firmness, tact, and impartiality;
- Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate inspectors;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, contractors, land owners, and the public.
