Environmental Compliance Manager
About the role
The Environmental Compliance Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing environmental compliance programs that support regulatory adherence, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence. This role manages compliance efforts related to air, water, wastewater, stormwater, and waste management while providing technical guidance to project teams and serving as a key liaison with regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage environmental compliance programs, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain awareness of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and ensure organizational compliance.
- Manage environmental permits, approvals, renewals, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Conduct environmental audits, inspections, and compliance assessments.
- Identify compliance risks and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
- Provide regulatory guidance and technical support to operations, engineering, and project teams.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with regulatory agencies, inspectors, and external stakeholders.
- Prepare and review regulatory reports, permit applications, and environmental documentation.
- Support incident response, investigations, and regulatory notifications as needed.
- Develop and deliver environmental compliance training for employees and leadership.
- Track, analyze, and report compliance metrics and trends to management.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and promote environmental best practices throughout the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in environmental compliance, permitting, or regulatory management.
- Professional certifications such as CHMM, CEP, CPESC, or similar preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain.
- OSHA environmental or safety certifications preferred.
- Experience in engineering, water/wastewater, industrial, utility, or construction environments preferred.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations related to air, water, wastewater, stormwater, and waste management.
- Experience conducting environmental audits, inspections, and compliance assessments.
- Able to interpret and apply regulatory requirements to operational and project activities.
- Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with compliance tracking systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Able to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods while working at a computer workstation.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and reviewing technical documents.
- Ability to occasionally travel to project sites, client meetings, regulatory meetings, and operational facilities.
- Ability to lift and carry light materials or equipment (typically up to 20–25 pounds).

Work Location/Hours
The employee will be expected to work from ARRO office locations, client sites, and project locations as business needs require. This position includes a combination of office, field, and remote work, with flexibility based on project demands. Hybrid and remote work opportunities are available upon meeting performance expectations and demonstrating an understanding of ARRO's processes, as approved by the supervisor.
