About the role

GSI is seeking a full-time Environmental Assessor for our New Jersey office. The ideal candidate will have an environmental degree and 2-5 years of experience in environmental due diligence, particularly in commercial real estate.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field investigations and document reviews (environmental, historical, regulatory agency files, etc.)
  • Compile and organize project-specific data, including generating site figures and tabulating analytical results
  • Coordinate tasks with site personnel, regulatory agencies, and team members
  • Perform research to complete project tasks and meet deadlines within budget
  • Author technical reports
  • Plan, communicate, and schedule tasks to meet deadlines
  • Identify project obstacles and propose solutions
  • Communicate scope deviations accurately and provide progress updates
  • Assess and compile data from historical records, online resources, and other research
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to obtain records
  • Compile supporting documentation and develop evidence-based recommendations
  • Other duties as assigned by the Project Manager

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Environmental, Physical, or Biological Sciences, or a related discipline (experience may substitute on a case-by-case basis)
  • Valid Driver License and willingness to travel as necessary
  • 2-5 years of experience in environmental due diligence, with a focus on commercial real estate
  • Previous experience performing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) preferred
  • Familiarity with state regulatory processes
  • Excellent writing, organizational, time management, and multitasking skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience using Google or similar search engines for research
  • Knowledge of Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Site Investigations, and/or Remedial Investigations

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Must communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and via email
  • Ability to work in a typical office setting and outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Specific vision abilities required: reading computer screens, printed materials, and close focus
  • Regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, stretching, reaching, or crouching
  • May require lifting or moving up to 25 lbs
