About the role
Environmental Area Operations Manager
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategies that expand environmental compliance, permitting, and planning services and environmental remediation and geophysics services across federal, U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), and other key client sectors.
- Leverage systems for operations, project delivery, staff development, and client engagement to ensure alignment with HDR’s strategic objectives.
- Manage complex environmental compliance, planning, and marine sciences programs, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, budget, safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee and support regional and area operations, including marketing, project delivery, staff development, quality assurance, safety, and client relationship management.
- Lead business development efforts, including identifying and pursuing new opportunities, strengthening client relationships, supporting proposals and contract negotiations, and contributing to strategic growth initiatives.
- Support technical and operational needs of section leads and project teams, including resolving complex issues, supporting problem projects, and ensuring regulatory and contractual alignment.
- Foster a culture of communication, collaboration, and continuous improvement by mentoring staff, supporting training and development, succession planning, and encouraging engagement and professional growth across teams.
- Implement company policies and procedures, including quality, safety, recruiting, and risk management.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with EOC leadership, Professional Services Manager, Professional Services Director, and Business Groups to enhance environmental technical capabilities and service delivery.
- Manage special regional initiatives and environmental program improvements, including implementation of new compliance tools, processes, and best practices.
- Represent HDR in regulatory, client, and community engagements.
Requirements
- Possess signatory authority as needed.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or related field.
- One or more relevant certifications such as CHMM, REM, CESCO, REP, etc.
- Professional Engineering (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license.
- OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
- A minimum of 15 years’ experience and a deep understanding of Environmental Compliance and Planning, NEPA, Marine Sciences, environmental remediation, and project management.
- Experience managing large compliance projects in the United States and on DoD installations.
- Experience managing CERCLA and RCRA remediation projects.
- Proven ability to identify and write technical proposals for complex remediation investigations, feasibility studies, and/or remedial designs on DoD installations.
- Proficiency with MS Office and other software tools, including Esri products.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
