Environment of Care Director
Position Summary
The Environment of Care (EOC) Director plays a critical leadership role in ensuring a safe, compliant, and well-maintained healthcare environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This position oversees all aspects of facility safety, life safety, and physical plant operations, with a strong emphasis on maintenance, environmental services, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight for facility maintenance, environmental services, and life safety operations
- Ensure the physical plant, grounds, and building systems are properly maintained and operational
- Oversee preventive maintenance programs, work orders, inspections, and repairs
- Maintain compliance with Environment of Care, Life Safety, and safety regulations
- Support readiness for surveys, audits, and inspections
- Lead safety initiatives that promote a secure environment for patients, employees, and visitors
- Collaborate with leadership to identify risks, improve processes, and enhance operational efficiency
- Contribute to Safety, EOC, and Hazardous Materials committees
- Supervise and mentor departmental leaders and staff
- Ensure proper handling of hazardous materials, waste management, and emergency preparedness
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience in the building trades, facilities management, or maintenance
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in a hospital, behavioral health facility, or nursing home
- Knowledge: Strong emphasis on life safety and Environment of Care in healthcare settings
- Skills: Demonstrated experience in maintenance leadership or facilities operations, strong working knowledge of healthcare safety standards and life safety principles
