Plans, Organizes and Manages Environmental Staff and Organizational Cleanliness

  • Develops goals and objectives for the department and recommends departmental policies and procedures.
  • Interviews, hires, trains, assigns work to, schedules, evaluates and, when necessary, disciplines and discharges of subordinate staff members.
  • Schedules staff to achieve the highest levels of productivity and efficiency related to customer service.
  • Investigates and resolves complaints from patients, visitors, staff members and others; consults with the appropriate individual(s) regarding problems which need future consideration.
  • Interprets, enforces and supports Hospital policies, procedures, program changes and national performance standards.
  • Keeps current on federal and state regulations.
  • Performs appropriate committee functions, as assigned, including the leadership of and/or support to one or more process improvement efforts.
  • Orients and trains new team members to perform duties following proper procedures.
  • Supports the Environmental team by providing back-up with carrying the telephone and pager and responding to service requests. Also, prioritizes requests for Housekeeping team members.
  • Develops Quality Control Standards, Sets Stock Levels And Provides Input Into The Purchase And Maintenance Of Environmental Products And Equipment.
  • Determines appropriate minimum and maximum parameters of products; evaluates services provided with clinical staff, Directors and Managers.
  • Evaluates quality indicators that are consistent with the latest trends and customer needs, by collecting appropriate data and evaluating indicators.
  • Maintains an effective cost control system; approves requisitions for supplies and equipment according to budgetary guidelines.
  • Ensures the facility has appropriate supplies available including ordering and restocking supplies and equipment.
  • Performs quality assurance inspections in the patient care and public area on a regular scheduled basis.
  • Contacts key distributors to evaluate new equipment and supplies for routine and emergency situations.
  • Recommends potential product consolidation and conversions of the inventory to achieve maximum savings and cost control on inventory dollars.
  • Reviews product additions and deletions with user departments and Infection Control Nurse; assists in the transition process of product conversions.
  • Prepares periodic reports related to statistics, productivity and quality measurements.

    Organizational Responsibilities

    • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
    • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
    • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
    • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
    • Patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
    • Utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
    • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
    • Complies with established organization and department policies.
    • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

    Education and Experience

    • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree plus two years of associated housekeeping and management/supervisory experience is required.
    • Work experience in a healthcare facility within the past three years is required.
    • Certification is desired.
