Pay

2025 Pay Range: $7,623.56 – $9,981.81 per month plus potential education premiums. Officers may also receive shift differential, premium pay, and longevity pay. The City offers matching contributions up to $200.00 per month for Deferred Compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform proactive police protection and services to safeguard lives, property, and constitutional rights of Fife citizens.
  • Respond to crime scenes, accidents, emergencies, and other assistance requests.
  • Detect, apprehend, and arrest criminals; enforce city, state, and county laws and ordinances.
  • Drive a patrol vehicle, observing for potential or actual hazards, public disorder, or legal violations.
  • Investigate reported or observed harmful or illegal conditions and take appropriate action.
  • Prepare formal descriptive reports and provide testimony for use by the department, attorneys, and other agencies; complete forms and issue citations.
  • Provide direction or information to individuals or groups to prevent or alleviate dangerous situations.
  • Apprehend traffic violators, issue citations, conduct drug and alcohol testing, and process offenders.
  • Provide first aid, CPR, and rescue services at crime scenes, accidents, and emergencies.
  • Coordinate with City personnel, other law‑enforcement agencies, and health‑care providers.
  • Maintain and operate specialized equipment (firearms, radios, baton, handcuffs, breath testing devices, etc.) and maintain proficiency in driving and firearms use.
  • Testify in court regarding investigations and arrests.
  • Participate in in‑service training and conduct law‑enforcement education for schools and community groups.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Minimum age: 21 years
  • U.S. citizen with a valid Washington State driver’s license
  • Successful completion of polygraph, psychological, medical, drug screening, and financial reviews
  • No pending or prior convictions of domestic violence, felonies, or disqualifying misdemeanors
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Physical examination at time of hire
  • Compliance with the City of Fife Drug Use Standards

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of police principles, practices, procedures, and evidence rules
  • Familiarity with state, county, and city laws and ordinances
  • Understanding of Fife geography and specific patrol areas
  • Proficiency with specialized police vehicles and equipment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including correct English usage
  • Interpersonal skills employing tact, patience, and courtesy
  • Ability to exercise independent discretion in emergencies
  • Capability to prepare clear, concise reports and present evidence in court
  • Maintain current knowledge of law and modern law‑enforcement techniques
  • Proficiency in defensive and legal driving practices
  • Physical endurance for running, climbing, and lifting
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action
  • Commitment to cooperative, effective working relationships and community engagement
