Entry Level Machinist

About the role

Set up machines in a timely and safe manner and operate conventional and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate primarily metal parts.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and operate more than one type of machine tool such as grinders, mills, drill presses, lathes, etc., on machining operations of moderate complexity.
• Read and understand blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
• Read technical manuals to understand equipment and controls.
• Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls as needed.
• Verify specifications have been followed.

Requirements

• One or more years of related experience is desirable, but not required.
• Strong mechanical aptitude recommended.
• Communicate clearly both orally and in writing; listen and seek clarification.
• Able to read and understand written information.
• Consistently punctual and reliable.
• Follow instructions, respond to management direction, and exhibit sound and accurate judgment.
• Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
• Observe safety and security procedures.

Physical Demands

• Walk and stand continuously over the course of an 8 to 10-hour work shift.
• Lift weights up to 20 pounds from floor to chest continuously, including various tools utilized in the process.
• Lift weights up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Hear sufficiently to be aware of safety issues.
• Visual ability to read and interpret shop drawings as well as operate machinery.
• Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including steel-toe safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hats.
