Entry Level Building Mechanical Engineer
About the role
Join our Portland, OR or Corvallis, OR Team as an Entry-Level Building Mechanical Engineer. This role offers hands-on experience in designing HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and utility systems for various facilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the design of HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, and municipal facilities.
- Support the design of plumbing systems, including potable water, drainage, and utility distribution systems.
- Aid in fire protection and life safety system design under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Perform engineering calculations for HVAC loads, ductwork sizing, piping systems, energy analysis, and plumbing system sizing.
- Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, technical reports, and design documentation.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, designers, and project team members to develop project solutions.
- Participate in equipment selection and vendor coordination activities.
- Conduct site visits, field investigations, and existing-condition assessments.
- Support construction-phase services, including reviewing submittals, responding to contractor questions, and assisting with field observations.
- Learn and apply industry standards and codes, including ASHRAE, NFPA, IBC, IECC, and local codes.
- Use AutoCAD, Revit, or other engineering design software as needed.
- Pursue Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the future if interested.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or related engineering discipline).
- 0–3 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and building systems design principles.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Qualifications
- Live within commutable distance from office location posted.
- Internship, co-op, or coursework related to building systems, HVAC design, plumbing, energy analysis, or infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or other engineering design software.
- Interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the future.

Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
