About the role

Jacobs is seeking an Entry-Level Building Mechanical Engineer to join our Portland, OR or Corvallis, OR Team. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer to work alongside experienced mechanical engineers and designers on water, wastewater, and infrastructure projects throughout the region.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design of HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, and municipal facilities.
  • Support the design of plumbing systems, including potable water, drainage, and utility distribution systems.
  • Aid in fire protection and life safety system design under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Perform engineering calculations for HVAC loads, ductwork sizing, piping systems, energy analysis, and plumbing system sizing.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, technical reports, and design documentation.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, designers, and project team members to develop project solutions.
  • Participate in equipment selection and vendor coordination activities.
  • Conduct site visits, field investigations, and existing-condition assessments.
  • Support construction-phase services, including reviewing submittals, responding to contractor questions, and assisting with field observations.
  • Learn and apply industry standards and codes, including ASHRAE, NFPA, IBC, IECC, and local codes.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary engineering projects through academic or internship experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or related engineering discipline).
  • 0–3 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and building systems design principles.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must live within commutable distance from office location posted.

Qualifications

  • Internship, co-op, or coursework related to building systems, HVAC design, plumbing, energy analysis, or infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or other engineering design software.
  • Interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the future.

Skills

  • Knowledge of industry standards and codes, including ASHRAE, NFPA, IBC, IECC, and local codes.
  • Experience with engineering calculations and design documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
