Key Responsibilities

  • Small Business Development Center (SBDC)
    • Achieves SBDC economic goals and tracks progress.
    • Aids in achieving program initiatives and economic impact goals as set by the Small Business Administration, Missouri Small Business Development Center's administrative office, and Missouri University of Science & Technology SBDC related to job creation and retention, loan and investment amounts, increased sales, business acquisitions or starts, jobs created or retained, and regular reporting on client and center activity.
    • Provides programs and counseling services (e.g. training seminars, workshops, 1:1 training) to small businesses by assessing needs, recommending options, and helping entrepreneurs meet their goals.
    • Marks educational offerings and promotes the mission of the Missouri Small Business Development Center through presentations, radio interviews, meetings with legislators, social media, and other platforms.
    • Offers an effective consultative service to small businesses by building cooperative one-on-one relationships, recommending viable options or identifying resources to address their needs, and conducting follow-up sessions to assess progress.
    • Develops and administers training programs to meet specific needs of small businesses in the region by identifying prospective participants, arranging for facilities and equipment, assisting with brochures and materials, representing the Small Business Development Center during training sessions, facilitating workshops, and collecting and processing fees and associated funds.
    • Generates program income through innovative programs.
    • Plans and develops the Small Business Development Center’s budget, adhering to grant-making body’s guidelines and regulations.
    • Establishes positive working relationships with local and regional economic development organizations, critical community governments, chambers of commerce, and business stakeholders to effectively communicate the Missouri Small Business Development Center’s services and value to stakeholders and generate program income.
  • Incubators
    • Manages client application and interview process to ensure appropriate fit.
    • Promotes the mission of the TTED group through presentations, interviews, social media, and the TTED website.
    • Schedules the interview process, tailoring the questionnaire to suit the incubator and client.
    • Develops and leads educational and social programs for incubator clients.
    • Offers an effective consultative service to startup clients by building cooperative one-on-one relationships, recommending viable options or identifying resources to address their needs, and conducting follow-up sessions to assess progress.
    • Maintains professional relationships with incubator clients and assists with any issues that arise.
    • Manages the development and administration of educational training and social programs to meet specific needs of our startups identified by such avenues as milestone assessment and economic development surveys.
    • Manages incubator operations such as outreach, selection, onboarding/milestones, services, and exit.
    • Leads community outreach to all startups, informing them about the CATALYS&T incubator system.
    • Manages the waitlist for incubator space, if needed, including knowledge of timing and resources needed by each prospective client.
    • Maintains records of the application and interview processes.
    • Maintains incubator equipment to ensure it is functioning correctly.
    • Conducts exit interviews with incubator clients.
  • Other
    • Coordinates, markets, and promotes all TTED and SBDC programs and events.
    • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Technology Transfer & Economic Development office.
    • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
    • Contributes to the overall success of the SBDC and Missouri University of Science & Technology by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
    • At least two years counseling entrepreneurs in a wide range of disciplines.
    • Successful experience in operating and managing a business and/or owning a small business is preferred.
    • Experience managing an incubator including implementing programming.
    • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business, management, or a related field.
