Responsibilities
- Serves as the primary contact for career advisement issues/services for the Main and all Regional campuses.
- Acts as backup for management during their absence.
- Assists in carrying out grant objectives.
- Assists in formulating strategic business plans for the University and/or College.
- Provides career advisement to students and alumni as to choosing or changing a career direction, planning for graduate school, identifying career goals, establishing a plan of action, writing a resume or cover letter, preparing for an interview, conducting a job or internship search, and other issues related to the career planning process.
- Works with students and alumni to establish a plan of action to prepare for a successful career.
- Advises staff, students, and faculty on pre-professional advisement services available to undergraduate students; assists with the professional school search, application process, and submittal timelines; collaborates with students in the creation of professional school correspondence materials.
- Identifies appropriate assessment tools and facilitates assessments with students and alumni to identify their career interests, preferred work environments, and how to make decisions about career choices.
- Develops workshops and sessions on career development topics and soft-skill development.
- Prepares students for later educational experiences by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities.
- Develops, organizes and prepares materials for students to guide them through the job search process in their profession, and/or refers them to available resources.
- Instructs staff in career development techniques, such as job search and application strategies, resume writing, and interview skills.
- Maintains accurate and complete student records as required by laws, policies, and administrative regulations.
- Compiles, maintains, analyzes, and prepares reports on data related to activities such as student engagement and retention, academic progress, experiential learning, and/or career success.
- Identifies, develops, or evaluates communication strategies, based on knowledge of university objectives, market characteristics, and cost factors.
- Represents institution and/or assigned program(s) at community and campus events, in meetings with other institution personnel, and during accreditation processes.
- Promotes the university by participating in community, state, and national events or meetings, and by developing partnerships with industry and/or professional associations.
- Establishes departmental assessment of operational policies and procedures; makes any necessary modifications, based on analysis of operations, demographics, and other research information, to continually improve services to students and alumni.
- Maintains or monitors departmental and/or program websites.
- Oversees the daily performance of assigned career development portal(s).
- Generates reports to audit data quality, ensure accuracy and system integrity, and increase productivity.
- Maintains data integrity and confidentiality.
- Compiles and studies occupational, educational, and economic information to assist students in determining and carrying out career and educational objectives.
- Ensures compliance with university policies and procedures; county, state, federal, and international regulations; professional association guidelines; and accreditation requirements.
- Completes special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Psychology, Therapy and Counseling, English Language, Education and Training, Customer and Personal Service, Active Listening, Speaking, Reading Comprehension, Social Perceptiveness, Critical Thinking, Writing, Judgment and Decision Making, Active Learning, Complex Problem Solving, Service Orientation.
- Required Education: Bachelor's Degree Major (if Required Required Experience: Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years counseling/advising experience. --OR-- Master's degree and five (5) years counseling/advising experience.
