Entertainment Operator–Media and Content
About the Role
The Entertainment Operator – Media and Content is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of all video and content elements in the vessel’s entertainment venues. This includes setup, operation, and teardown of video equipment for Production Shows, Headline Entertainers, Enrichment speakers, presenters, and other users of the theater and shipboard entertainment venues. The role involves operating video output control software and hardware, monitoring screen quality and content, and maintaining organizational standards. The Entertainment Operator liaises with Headline Entertainers regarding their video requirements, coordinates content, attends rehearsals, and assists with stage resets. Additionally, this role leads the cleaning and maintenance of all video output devices and assists with video or screen content tasks in alternative entertainment venues as needed.
Responsibilities
- Maintain brand and industry standards for video quality in the main theater and all satellite lounges, including the general health of the ship’s network.
- Follow the daily written schedule for events, rehearsals, and performances.
- Maintain professional and helpful interactions with guests attending shows or around the ship.
- Liaise with the Stage & Production Manager and Technical Director to maintain and improve production value in the theater, and with Venue Production Managers for satellite lounges.
- Operate all media and video elements for scheduled events in the vessel’s main theater and alternative entertainment venues.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory for consumables such as replacement screen panels, logs of usage, and the health of media servers.
- Work with the Technical Director to place purchase orders.
- Ensure video system configurations are not changed without written approval from the Head Office.
- Report any broken or deficient equipment to the Technical Director in a timely manner.
- Adhere to Celebrity’s SQM and safety standards while maintaining the artistic integrity of theatrical shows.
- Participate in stage resets with the Entertainment Operator team.
- Work with the Stage & Production Manager or Technical Director to ensure the theater setup is clean, organized, and visually appealing.
- Collaborate with Venue Production Managers to ensure satellite lounge setups are clean and organized.
- Open theater doors 30 minutes prior to showtime or as instructed.
- Maintain a high level of production value for all entertainment venues.
- Uphold the integrity of shows and events produced by Celebrity Cruises or outside Production Companies.
- Deliver results, alongside the Stage & Production Manager and/or Venue Production Manager, for Overall Entertainment ratings based on Production Shows and Headline Entertainers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in theater, 3D design, or entertainment technology from an accredited university or equivalent experience is required.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in entertainment or screen content and video operation, design, setup, and maintenance.
- Working/operational knowledge of Pandoras Box and Resolume.
- Working/operational knowledge of Pixera, TouchDesigner, Chataigne, or Notch.
- Experience with show networks (Art-Net, sACN, NDI) or configuring IP-based video/control systems.
- Extensive knowledge of video equipment, media servers, LED screens, and relevant electrical systems.
- Experience with expansive video systems, including maintenance, cleaning, assembly, and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of computers (Windows and Mac) and connecting to external devices such as projectors, TV screens, and LED panels.
- Previous experience on cruise ships or touring is an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work positively and cooperatively in a diverse team environment.
- Ability to communicate tactfully with coworkers and other shipboard employees to resolve problems.
- Able to work well in a fast-paced environment and adapt to sudden changes.
Language Requirements
- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with guests.
- Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures, including giving and receiving instructions in written and verbal forms.
- Additional languages are an asset.
