Enrollment Specialist
About the role
The Supportive Programs and Initiatives (SPI), Fair Fares program Division is a Mayoral initiative to subsidize NYCT fares for low-income families and New York City residents living at or below the federal poverty line. The Enrollment Specialist will work under the direction of the Enrollment Specialist Supervisor to enroll consumers at walk-in locations throughout the city.
Responsibilities
- Verify and enroll participant referrals daily: Walk-In, electronically and/or telephonically. Review consumer’s documents for completeness; ensure Fair Fares consumers have all necessary paperwork and documentation required to complete the Fair Fares application process. Documentation will be reviewed and authenticated as “official” documentation while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and discretion.
- Review FF database throughout the day and ensure all program consents are signed. Navigate the enrollment database; scan all authenticated official documents into the database; data enter all demographic and relevant consumer information necessary to process the completed application; and ensure that all information is entered accurately.
- Finalize and submit the consumers’ complete Fair Fare application; review to ensure that all necessary documents and/or other relevant information are obtained from the consumer. Notify consumers of required, missing documentation, and direct those consumers to return the missing information according to program procedure. Inform consumers of how to obtain official documents from local, state, and/or information for submission of complete applications. Respond to consumer questions and concerns in a timely manner.
- Cook up communication around site-specific issues under direction from his or her supervisor; responsible for creating, organizing, scheduling, and presenting information to community audiences via public speaking (conducting information sessions and setting up information tables), flyers, brochures, and other relevant mediums. Coordinate efforts to facilitate communications at the various locations throughout the five boroughs of New York City to support consumers in the Fair Fare enrollment process and provides adequate personnel coverage.
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
- Educational and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.

- New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
