Enrichment Specialist – Chinese Tutor

About the role
Under the supervision of the Site Coordinator, the Chinese Tutor leads focused academic tutoring sessions and enrichment activities for youth in YMCA After School Programs. The role involves developing and implementing lesson plans tailored to support and supplement school-wide efforts in Chinese language acquisition for elementary school-aged youth (K-5th). Sessions must be engaging, align with YMCA curriculum guidelines, and incorporate Youth Development Principles to support students' academic growth and personal development.
Responsibilities
- Plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans for elementary school students (K-5th) to strengthen language skills and confidence.
- Provide individualized and group tutoring support to meet diverse learning needs and promote academic growth.
- Design and facilitate Chinese-focused enrichment activities that encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and a positive attitude toward learning.
- Create an inclusive and supportive environment that fosters participation and self-confidence in language acquisition.
- Incorporate Youth Development Principles into activities to support students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
- Follow YMCA policies and safety guidelines during all tutoring sessions and activities.
- Maintain an organized and clean learning space to ensure a productive environment.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to improve teaching practices.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor to support program goals.
Program Dates
- San Francisco Sites: August 11, 2025 – June 3, 2026
- Marin Sites: August 18, 2025 – June 13, 2026
Work Environment & Physical Demands
The Chinese Tutor will work in an active after-school program environment, which may include classroom, outdoor, and recreational spaces.
Requirements
- Must successfully complete a background screening, including criminal and employment verification. Some positions may also require a credit check.

Pay
The Chinese Tutor position offers a compensation range of $20.00 – $40.00 per hour, based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and aligned with grant fund approvals and requirements.
