About the role

The Enhanced TASC Peer Support Specialist position at Coastal Horizons Center is dedicated to supporting justice-involved individuals with primary mental health diagnoses, including serious mental illness (SMI), through the Enhanced TASC program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support and mentoring services to justice-involved individuals with mental health and co-occurring disorders.
  • Aid clients in engaging in behavioral health treatment and community resources.
  • Accompany clients to appointments as needed.
  • Support individuals in overcoming barriers related to housing, transportation, healthcare, and other social determinants of health.

Requirements

  • Completed the North Carolina Peer Support Specialist Certification Program.
  • Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use disorders and at least two years of recovery.
  • Preference given to individuals with experience working with justice-involved individuals and individuals with serious mental illness (SMI), co-occurring disorders, trauma histories, and/or complex behavioral health needs.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/Equivalent or higher.

Skills

  • Knowledge of wellness, recovery, and peer support principles.
  • Establish rapport and maintain supportive relationships with individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems and remote collaboration tools (i.e., Teams, Zoom, etc.).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with justice systems, healthcare providers, and community partners.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to accurately document services and maintain compliance with program standards and timelines.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the service area as required.
