About the role
Sante is seeking a Full-Time Peer Support Specialist. This position utilizes the applicant’s lived experience of mental health recovery to provide hope, encouragement, mentoring, advocacy, and practical support to adolescents and young adults experiencing a first episode of psychosis.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one peer mentoring and support in clinic and community settings.
- Aid participants in developing individualized recovery plans.
- Help participants build natural support and meaningful social connections.
- Develop trusting, collaborative relationships with participants using a person-centered, recovery-oriented approach.
- Offer individualized peer coaching and support to assist participants in identifying and achieving personal recovery goals.
- Serve as a positive role model demonstrating that recovery from mental illness is possible.
- Aid participants in identifying personal strengths, interests, values, and recovery goals.
- Promote self-advocacy, empowerment, hope, and self-determination.
- Encourage engagement in treatment and community-based activities.
- Aid participants in developing coping skills, resilience, and wellness strategies to reduce relapses and promote recovery.
- Prepare and maintain written case records, reports, notes, and forms.
- Check work email according to agency protocol.
- Participate in and complete all required training courses.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- A minimum of 1 year of experience developing recovery plans.
- Lived experience and willingness to use that experience appropriately to support others.
- Current Maryland Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) certification or willingness to obtain certification within 2 years of hire date.
- Ability to work individually as well as within a team.
- Patience and effective communication with diverse consumers.
