About the role

The Enhanced TASC Peer Support Specialist position at Coastal Horizons Center is designed to support justice-involved individuals with primary mental health diagnoses, including serious mental illness (SMI), through the Enhanced TASC program. This role operates within North Carolina's Enhanced TASC model, which aims to standardize TASC services and improve service outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support and mentoring services to justice-involved individuals with mental health and co-occurring disorders.
  • Aid clients in engaging in behavioral health treatment and community resources.
  • Accompany clients to appointments as needed.
  • Support individuals in overcoming barriers related to housing, transportation, healthcare, and other social determinants of health.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma/Equivalent or higher.
  • Certification: Must have completed the North Carolina Peer Support Specialist Certification Program.
  • Experience: At least two years of recovery required, with preference for experience working with justice-involved individuals and those with serious mental illness (SMI), co-occurring disorders, trauma histories, and/or complex behavioral health needs.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Skills

  • Knowledge of wellness, recovery, and peer support principles.
  • Ability to establish rapport and maintain supportive relationships with individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems and remote collaboration tools (i.e., Teams, Zoom, etc.).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with justice systems, healthcare providers, and community partners.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to accurately document services and maintain compliance with program standards and timelines.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the service area as required.
