English Learner Specialist, West Valley

As the English Learner Specialist, you will oversee and support the English Learner Program, ensuring students receive the targeted instruction and resources they need to succeed.

Responsibilities

• Participate in AZELLA training and support required testing, data interpretation, and student progress monitoring.
• Provide professional development and instructional support for teachers serving English learners.
• Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and the School Testing Coordinator to coordinate English learner services.
• Provide required English Language Development services and supplemental push-in, pull-out, intervention, or tutoring services based on student needs.
• Track student English language acquisition and academic progress.
• Maintain required program records and documentation of supplemental Title III activities.
• Demonstrate knowledge of research-based language-acquisition practices, Arizona English Language Proficiency Standards, and applicable K-8 academic standards.
• Support administrators, teachers, and school staff in implementing and monitoring the English Learner Program.
• Provide targeted English language and academic instruction based on identified student needs.
• Provide supplemental Title III services outside of and in addition to required English Language Development instruction.
• Use AZELLA, district, state, classroom, and progress-monitoring data to plan instruction, evaluate student progress, and adjust interventions.
• Support teachers in using effective instructional, differentiation, assessment, and progress-monitoring practices for English learners.
• Participate in school data, MTSS, and student-support teams concerning the academic and language-development progress of English learners.
• Administer or assist with appropriate instructional diagnostic and progress-monitoring assessments.
• Collect and maintain accurate student progress, service, and program records and provide timely feedback to staff, students, and parents.
• Complete required Time and Effort documentation that separately identifies actual time devoted to supplemental Title III activities and non-Title III responsibilities, and maintain applicable supporting records.
• Create a safe, positive, organized, and culturally responsive learning environment.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, colleagues, and the community.
• Complete and maintain required certifications and professional qualifications.
• Follow district policies, procedures, grant requirements, and administrative directives.
• Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the position and applicable funding requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an education-related field.
• ESL, Bilingual, or SEI Endorsement certification required.
• Teaching license required.
• Must pass a criminal history background check.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated initiative and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Experience positively interacting with all students.
• Ability to create a safe learning environment conducive to learning.
• Capable of designing lesson plans to meet student needs and school & state requirements.
• Able to employ varied teaching strategies and best practices that effectively teach the curriculum.
• Ability to identify individual student needs.
• Good communication skills with students, coworkers, administration, and parents.
• Ability to collaborate with other teachers and school staff.
• Demonstrated commitment to the teaching profession by utilizing resources for professional development.

Schedule

Daily travel to the assigned location is required. Travel to additional locations may be required for professional development training/events. Local and in-state travel may also be necessary.

Work Environment

• This position requires the need to lift objects (up to 25 pounds) on occasion.
• May require sitting for long periods, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping, and long periods of concentration.

This is a Title III federally-funded position with responsibilities that align to federal requirements. The continuation of this position will be revisited annually based on funding.
