English Instructor, Part-time Adjunct Pool - East Kern/Tehachapi

About the Role

Kern Community College District accepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. Applications submitted will remain active for up to two years. If a need arises, qualified applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be contacted by department supervisors, deans, or division chairs.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in a full range of English and Reading courses, including teaching at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning, and using multiple teaching methodologies.
• Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the English department.
• Maintain subject matter currency and develop/revise curriculum.
• Use computer and multimedia technology in instruction.
• Engage in collegial participation in departmental, college, and discipline-specific professional activities.

Requirements

• Master’s in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition OR
• Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism OR
• The equivalent. Candidates with equivalent qualifications must submit an Application for Equivalence form with supporting documents.
• A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Foreign degrees must be evaluated by a NACES or ACEI member service.
