About the role
The State of Connecticut, through the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS), is recruiting for an English Instructor to join the team at Emmett O'Brien Technical High School in Ansonia, CT. The ideal candidate will bring strong content knowledge in high school English curricula and a student-centered approach to teaching.
Responsibilities
- Engage in intentional planning to prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom through differentiation.
- Understand the varied needs of each student and collaborate with guidance personnel and other support service educators to assist students with special programming.
- Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 accommodations/modifications.
- Set instructional goals and outcomes, using varied instructional practices and resources.
- Effectively design instructional learning opportunities and assessments.
- Develop a culture for learning and manage classroom procedures.
- Create a positive school community that encourages ethical student behavior.
- Maintain confidentiality concerning personnel, student, and operational concerns of the district.
- Communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with others.
- Participate in professional communities and demonstrate growth in professional craft.
- Adhere to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility and implement CTECS Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives.
Requirements
The ideal candidate must possess an active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in one of the following areas: 015 English, 4–12. They should also have professional experiences related to the field of teaching English, experience with 21st century standards-based lesson planning aligned to the CT Core Standards in English Language Arts, experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning, experience fostering and facilitating learning and classroom management, and experience communicating ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, English Instructors must possess an active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in one of the following areas: 015 English, 4–12. The position is full-time, first shift, and located at Emmett O'Brien Technical High School in Bridgeport, CT. The salary is VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers. The academic calendar follows a ten-month schedule (188 days per year).
Pay
Versatile salary based on the State Vocational Federation of Teachers scale.
Schedule
First shift, full time (35 hours per week), Monday through Friday.
