Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is seeking Adjunct Faculty to teach courses in the English program (ENGL). Locations may include the main campus, local high schools, or online, with classes offered during daytime, evening, or virtually. This is a pool position with applications accepted on an ongoing basis.

About the Role

Adjunct faculty are responsible for conducting class sessions according to schedule and providing instruction, activities, assignments, and assessments that cover all Student Learning Objectives for the assigned course(s).

Responsibilities

  • Use teaching methods that emphasize application, cooperation, and collaboration to engage students actively in their studies.
  • Organize and explain content using methods appropriate for students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences.
  • Assign and provide feedback for in- and out-of-class work while monitoring student progress.
  • Perform adequate assessment and analysis of student performance according to college requirements.
  • Reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of your own pedagogy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to arrive on time and be prepared to teach during scheduled class times.
  • Ability to prepare curricular materials that convey learning objectives to students.
  • Ability to effectively use Blackboard for posting assignments, assessing student performance, and grading.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems independently.
  • Ability to be organized and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Master’s or higher degree in English or a Master’s or higher degree in a related field with 18 credit hours of graduate English coursework.
  • Preferred: Four (4) years of teaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Preferred: Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
  • Preferred: Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.

Pay

$1,070.32 per credit hour.

Schedule

Variable schedule to meet operational needs, including potential evening and weekend hours. Appointment is contingent on sufficient enrollments or program and scheduling changes.
