Engineering Technologist III
This role advances customer service in the preparation and construction of work orders to build a smarter energy future for new Residential and mixed-use developments. The successful candidate will contribute to the growth and improvement of the electrical distribution system to energize the communities we serve.
About the role
The Engineering Technologist III is the third level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role. This position provides technical expertise to solve complex problems and offers leadership and oversight in a specific area of expertise with limited supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and work with a high degree of independence.
Responsibilities
- Work within a team environment and collaborate across multiple work groups to accomplish common goals.
- Apply deep technical expertise in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems related to electrical distribution and other utility systems.
- Independently prepare thorough and accurate work orders, technical reports, correspondence, documentation, electrical and mechanical calculations, and sketches.
- Communicate frequently and consistently with internal and external customers to ensure satisfaction.
- Ensure accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities.
- Apply advancing-level knowledge in preparing technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches.
- Conduct engineering and related studies and perform field design work to prepare work orders for construction of the distribution system.
- Interpret conceptual plans to prepare work orders, provide guidance on roadway permitting and easements, and apply CIAC billing.
- Continually develop, transform, and improve job-related, technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.
- Develop positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
- Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Maintain accurate records and files.
- Support the company’s goals and represent the company positively and professionally.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology.
- 4 years of related work experience.
In lieu of the above, High School/GED and 6 years of related work experience is acceptable.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering, or an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology (desired).
- 2 additional years of related work experience (desired).
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in the utility industry (preferred).
- Ability to effectively apply principles of project management.
- Acts with a sense of urgency and manages multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Either 2+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 4+ years of experience and an Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 6+ years of equivalent experience without a degree.
Working Conditions
- Hybrid work arrangement: Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. Hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.
- Work will be performed in both office and field settings.
- 5-15% travel required.
