About the role

The Accelerator Operations and Technology (AOT) division's Radio Frequency Engineering (RFE) Group is seeking an Engineering Technologist to join its High Power RF (HPRF) Team. The AOT Division is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and modernization of all accelerator systems at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE).

Responsibilities

  • Experience in electrical engineering areas related to microwave systems, such as high-voltage or pulsedpower, RF amplifiers, or RF components.
  • Hands-on electrical, electronics, and basic mechanical skills (lab or industrial setting).
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Experience creating electrical/electronic schematics using CAD tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with teams to design, test, or install high-power RF or high-voltage systems.
  • Familiarity with vacuum tube-based RF amplifiers and high-voltage systems.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles and best practices in design and implementation.
  • Experience translating system requirements into practical designs.

Requirements

  • Engineering Technologist 1: Position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, science, math or related degree and two (2) years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
  • Engineering Technologist 2: Position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, science, math or related degree from an accredited institution and five (5) years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience at Level 1: Position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, science, math or related degree and two (2) years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
  • Education/Experience at Level 2: Position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, science, math or related degree from an accredited institution and five (5) years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Skills

  • Experience contributing to the design, testing, and installation of high-power RF, high-voltage, or pulsed-power systems.
  • Experience working on a team to develop RF amplifiers and/or high-voltage systems.
  • Hands-on experience assembling, installing, testing, and troubleshooting RF or pulsed-power systems.
  • Experience with high-voltage DC and pulsed-power systems.
  • Familiarity with circuit design and simulation tools (e.g., PSpice, Multisim, LTspice).
  • Experience working at an accelerator facility (preferred).
  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance (typically requires U.S. citizenship; not required for this position).
