Responsibilities
- Solve technical problems in support of engineering projects and research.
- Plan and execute complex assignments requiring initiative, sound judgment, and technical expertise.
- Facility design, operation, maintenance, project execution, and/or research-based engineering.
- Work independently and collaboratively, using engineering and computer tools to deliver efficient, accurate, and high-quality results while continuously improving processes to meet customer needs.
- Ensure compliance with safety and security protocols, train employees, and stop work if unsafe or compromising security.
- Plan and schedule detailed phases of engineering work, resolve design and coordination issues, and apply professional concepts to develop creative, effective solutions.
- Prepare specifications and evaluations, conduct technical research, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and contractors.
- Lead or mentor staff, support project controls and estimates, and ensure adherence to established engineering policies and Laboratory standards.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
Requirements
- Able to perform installation, diagnostics, troubleshooting, service, and repair of Rockwell / Allen Bradley & Automated Logic equipment and systems.
- Able to program PLCs and HMIs systems for new or modified equipment utilizing RSLogix 5, 500, 5000, FactoryTalk Studio software, Studio5000, ControlLogix and CompactLogix & WebCTRL.
- Able to program and commission various variable frequency drives (VFD).
- Demonstrated history of obsolescence management and replacement/upgrade of legacy devices.
- Able to execute supporting activities, manage operating workflows, and continuous improvement of existing systems.
- Able to maintain software documentation(qualification summary reports, system audits, technical reports, etc.) and technical baseline.
- Expert knowledge of computer-aided drafting techniques, CAD modeling, and design.
- Expert knowledge of complex mathematical formulas and computations.
- Expert knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.
- Expert knowledge of engineering principles and technical responsibilities within the designated discipline.
- Expert knowledge of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards, and guides.
- Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, and DOE/NNSA codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the discipline.
Qualifications
- Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- Higher Level: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 12 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience

Essential Job Functions
- General Physical Mobility, standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending.
- Specific Physical Mobility use of both hands, use of both arms, use of both legs, use of both feet, carry/lift up to 20 pounds.
- Work in a noisy environment, work near sources of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, work near machinery with moving parts, working overtime or an irregular schedule.
- Work Schedule: This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees maybe eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.
- Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM.
