Engineering Technician I

Join a team of highly skilled software programmers and controls engineers, working on projects from initial concepts through full design, construction, and on-site commissioning to ensure fully operational facilities. This role involves constructing one-of-a-kind solutions using various types of control hardware and equipment, from fabrication to installation and commissioning at multiple facilities worldwide. The Engineering Support section includes 6 full-time specialists handling unique and challenging projects, ranging from quick turn-around tasks to large multi-year projects with over 10,000 labor hours.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hardware assembly and fabrication of designed systems
  • Order control system components based on engineering requirements
  • Order instrumentation and sensors based on user or application requirements
  • Perform time and cost estimates of fabrication work
  • Review hardware assembly and wiring diagrams for control and data acquisition
  • Troubleshoot control system software in PLC ladder logic, function block, etc., if needed

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required due to federal project requirements
  • Two (2) years of related experience in instrumentation or two (2) years of formal training from a technical/trade school with emphasis in electrical, controls, instrumentation, computer science, or similar discipline
  • Ability to learn operational knowledge of assembling, troubleshooting, maintaining controls, data acquisition, or similar areas within the first 90 days of employment
  • Experienced in the use of Microsoft Windows-based PCs
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical controls and instrumentation wiring diagrams, technical literature, and manufacturer's specifications (or demonstrate ability to learn within the first 90 days)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team environment
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with ability to adapt to a changing work environment

Essential Functions and Work Environment

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Maneuvering in and around facility equipment for field measurements or troubleshooting (10%-20%)
  • Proximity to extreme temperature variations and rotating equipment
  • Exposure to high noise levels (10%-20%)
  • Proximity to electrical circuits up to 161kVAC (5%-15%)
  • Use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including eye protection, hearing protection, arc flash protection, shock protection, etc. (5%-15%)
  • Work environment: Office, lab, or indoors on a construction site (>80%), field work outside (10%-20%)
  • Travel to company offices, customer sites for meetings, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting (>20%)

Equipment and Machines Involved

  • General office equipment (>60%)
  • Power Distribution devices such as Transformers, Switchgear, Motor Control Centers (MCCs), Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), servo drives, industrial instrumentation, data acquisition measurement systems, etc. (>50%)
  • Multimeters (5%-15%)
  • Signal generators and Oscilloscopes (5%-15%)

Schedule

  • Work hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:30am to 5:15pm, and Friday, 7:30am to 11:30am
  • Overtime to meet project schedules and milestones (10%-20%)
  • Field work attendance and punctuality is critical

Pay

$40,000 - $60,000 per year. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
