Engineering Technician (Facilities)-Journeyman

About the role

This position supports Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) as an Engineering Technician (Facilities)-Journeyman. The role requires on-site support in Patuxent River, MD, and is not eligible for remote work. The hourly pay range is $35.64 - $52.76, commensurate with experience.

The Integrated Battlespace Simulation and Test (IBST) Department’s E3 facility is a center of excellence for aircraft E3 Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation. The facility specializes in capabilities ranging from box-level to complete system-level testing, focusing on improving DoD Test & Evaluation through simulation of operational and threat environments.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an Engineering Technician in the Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) group, supporting facilities for NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV’s Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E).
• Provide operations and maintenance support for Hangar 144 (shielded Hangar), the Aircraft Anechoic Test Facility (AATF), and the Advanced System Integration Laboratory (ASIL).
• Coordinate, schedule, and support Test Project Engineers’ aircraft, facility use, and Support Equipment (SE) needs.
• Deliver Ground Support Equipment (GSE) to the Fleet Readiness Center (FRC) for preventative or unscheduled maintenance.
• Schedule and obtain GSE from FRC for project support.
• Maintain fueling ground support equipment.
• Assist in aircraft fueling operations, including purging aircraft and connecting/operating GSE carts for aircraft operation.
• Operate government equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, tugs, and other machinery.
• Assist with crane rigging and conduct facilities maintenance.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 6 years of relevant work experience.
• Ability to work 2nd shift (2:30 PM to 12:00 AM) after completing a mandatory 3-month day-shift training period.
• 3 years of experience working on aircraft.
• Experience using hand tools to support team project builds.
• Experience working with computers and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work overtime as required by the testing schedule.
• Proactive attitude and ability to seek out tasks to support the team.
• Ability to work collaboratively and maintain a positive attitude.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance eligibility and/or additional security access requirements as necessary for the role.

Desired Skills

• Crane Operator Certification.
• College degree or technical certification.
• Experience operating ground support equipment (GSE).
• Experience operating forklifts and pallet jacks.

Physical Environment and Working Conditions

• 60% of time spent working in the field (outdoors) and 40% in an office environment.
• Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting items up to 50 lbs.
• Operation of machinery (e.g., forklifts, dollies) to assist in moving heavy objects may be required.
• May require driving government vehicles.
• Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
• Noise level in the work environment is typically loud.
• Occasional short-distance travel on-site or near the work site; rare overnight travel may be required.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $35.64 - $52.76, commensurate with experience.

Schedule

After a mandatory 3-month day-shift training period, the schedule will transition to 2nd shift (2:30 PM to 12:00 AM). Overtime may be required based on the testing schedule.
