Engineering Technician (Electrical)

THOR Solutions is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician (Electrical) with U.S. Navy shipboard experience to provide full-time support for U.S. Naval auxiliary equipment at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) in Norfolk, VA.

Responsibilities

• Provide full-time onsite support as well as surge support for Code 252 cognizant equipment.
• Conduct Fleet Technical Assistance on-site or via distance support, including engineering/technical evaluations, equipment functional checks, troubleshooting, test, analysis, and equipment repairs.
• Perform assessments, inspections, and grooms to determine equipment condition and out-of-specification settings; observe operation of the equipment by ship's force to witness performance; use appropriate measuring equipment to obtain data for evaluation; make adjustments and repairs as needed.
• Provide Onboard Maintenance Training (OBMT) to Ship's Force technicians in operation, repair, and maintenance.
• Support shipboard gas turbine systems tasking, including TSRA, INSURV, and Tech Assist events.
• Analyze and review inspection data to determine the source of faults and recommend repair, replacement, or corrective action.
• Report findings/discrepancies to the designated Team Leader and/or Branch Head of MARMC 252 via Material Assessment Form (MAF), Prisms/ETC Software, TAAS-Info, debrief, or Technical Assistance Visit Report (TAVR) within two working days of task completion.

Location & Physical Activity

• Onsite at Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) in Norfolk, VA.
• Mix of desk/computer work in an office environment and visits to waterfront/shipboard environments.
• May involve repetitive motion, traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches), or vision requirements.

Travel

Up to 10% travel is anticipated.

Pay

The anticipated pay for this position is $37.68/hour. This position is covered under the Service Contract Act (SCA) and will additionally receive $5.09/hour in "health and welfare" benefits. Actual compensation offered will be based on individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience.

Security Clearance

An existing active or interim SECRET security clearance is required prior to hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore, only current U.S. citizens will be considered. Candidates without a clearance but with highly relevant experience may be considered but must obtain a clearance prior to hire.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED equivalent or a relevant U.S. Navy technical school diploma.
• A minimum of five (5) years (accumulated within the last seven (7) years) of demonstrated, specialized, hands-on experience operating, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and assessing U.S. Navy Auxiliary equipment, including but not limited to:
  • Electrical Controllers
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • A/C Electrical Controls
  • Refrigeration System Controls
  • Air Compressor Controls
  • MRG dehumidifiers
  • Sonar Dome DEPI Gages
• Demonstrated experience working as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the aforementioned systems/equipment/components for a U.S. Navy Engineering Activity, U.S. Navy Shipboard Engineering Department, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), or industrial/commercial equivalent.
• Proficiency using general and special-purpose electronic test equipment to perform organizational-level maintenance.
• Working knowledge of Navy assessment programs, visit processes, and reporting methods for visits.
• Experience using accepted current instrumentation for diagnosing equipment.
• Ability to utilize computers, including Microsoft Office Suite, for compiling reports, transferring digital images, and enhancing/labeling them for reports.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics, and plans; troubleshoot, analyze, and provide distance support for listed equipment as an SME.
