Engineering Technician (Construction)

Join the Department of Transportation as an Engineering Technician (Construction) and take on a role full of learning and discovery! Responsibilities
- Rotational Learning: Participate in scheduled work rotations to gain familiarity with district personnel, procedures, and projects
- Technical Support: Assist units across the agency with basic engineering tasks while learning departmental policies and workflows
- Drafting Tasks: Prepare bridge and structural drawings using design tools with guidance from experienced staff
- Plan Development: Produce drafting and detailing work for final bridge and structural plans from sketches, surveys, and existing documents
- Field Activities: Join field inspections of bridges and record notes and sketches with direction from professional staff
- Math Applications: Apply algebra, geometry, and trigonometry to compute quantities and support structural drafting
Qualifications
- Associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology (or within three months of graduation)
- Valid Class C Driver's License
- Meet Pennsylvania residency requirement
- Able to perform essential job functions
- Conditional offer requires submission of criminal history reports
Pay
Starting annual salary of $41,506.00 (before taxes) for candidates new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Schedule
Full-time employment; work hours 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. Hours may change based on vendor availability. Telework may be available ad‑hoc after probation, requiring a secure high‑speed internet connection and an approved location in Pennsylvania; otherwise reporting to the headquarters office in Montoursville. Telework eligibility is subject to change.
