Engineering Technician

Serco supports the US Navy as a prime for their Global Sustainment contract, maintaining Public Safety Systems across 117 Navy installations worldwide. Our team manages hardware and software for 30 legacy and baseline systems supporting Emergency Management and Physical Security missions. You will join a large sustainment team collaborating closely with the customer and other Serco teams to deliver quality service to Navy customers. About the role

As an Engineering Technician, you will support critical military defense and safety missions by providing expert system support, troubleshooting, and maintenance for Public Safety Systems globally.

Responsibilities

• Write well-designed, testable, and efficient Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Provide on-site and remote Subject Matter Expert (SME) system support to field engineers across the globe.
• Conduct software analysis, programming, testing, debugging activities, and maintenance.
• Identify production and non-production application issues, develop solutions, and implement necessary changes.
• Respond to corrective maintenance and preventative maintenance trouble calls.
• Adhere to contract service level agreements (SLA).
• Travel CONUS/OCONUS as needed (up to 50%).

Requirements

• US Citizenship.
• An active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain or currently hold an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.
• Minimum high school diploma or GED with at least four years of relevant professional experience.
• Minimum of four years of practical experience in system diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs within field operations.
• At least two years of autonomous work experience, demonstrating the ability to make technical decisions with minimal supervision.
• Familiarity with industry-standard concepts, practices, and procedures, including:
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting electronic, hydraulic, and electromechanical systems.
  • Reading and interpreting technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals.
  • Implementing safety, security, and compliance protocols in commercial, military, or governmental settings.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
  • Accurately documenting maintenance activities, repairs, and corrective measures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience (desired).
• Master’s degree with a minimum of one year of relevant professional experience (desired).
• Proficiency with one or more of the following systems or technologies (candidates are not expected to have experience with all listed items but should demonstrate relevant and transferable technical skills):
  • Access controlled gates (vehicle and pedestrian).
  • CCTV and video surveillance systems.
  • Automated Vehicle Gate (AVG).
  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC).
  • Electronic Security Systems (ESS) or access control platforms.
  • Card readers and access control logic.
  • Vehicle barriers and bollards (hydraulic and electromechanical).
  • Mass Notification / Emergency Alert Systems.
  • Alarms, intrusion detection systems, and sensor networks.
  • Emergency Operations Centers (EOC) or Dispatch Centers.
  • General electronics troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.
  • Aircraft maintenance or support systems (highly transferable experience).
