About the role

This position is within the Engineer Career Field (18) at the Department of Public Works (DPW). The role involves coordinating maintenance and repair projects for OMA facilities, providing customer service, and developing project plans and estimates.

Responsibilities

• Receive inquiries and provide information about DPW services and procedures for requesting and obtaining them.
• Schedule appointments for preventive maintenance and work order visits to minimize disruption to customers.
• Advise customers of work requirements that may negatively impact them, such as planned utility outages, equipment shutdowns, traffic detours, work delays, or schedule changes.
• Collect, analyze, and compile data to support the maintenance and repair of OMA facilities.
• Coordinate, prepare layouts, detailed cost estimates, step-by-step plans, bills of materials, and specifications involving civil, architectural, mechanical, and electrical principles.
• Interpret, select, adapt, and apply guidelines, precedents, engineering principles, trades practices, time/cost constraints, materials availability, national construction codes, and standards in project development.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, including a completed background investigation.
• Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
• Valid state driver’s license required.

To qualify, you must meet the following experience requirements:

• At least one year of specialized experience, defined as:
  • Conducting inspections to determine conditions of buildings and structures.
  • Determining work priorities based on needs, cost, and feasibility.
  • Providing customer service by assisting customers with policies and procedures.
  • Generating project scope of work, plans, and estimates utilizing various computerized systems.
• Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
• Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, transcripts will be required.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-10).
