Engineering Technician
Responsibilities
- Manages public and private Construction Services.
- Affixes standard engineering principles, prepares material estimates, and schedules project phases.
- Assists with public meetings, develops plans and contract documents, and participates in contract bidding and award processes.
- Manages construction for capital improvement programs, drafts correspondence, and leads preconstruction and progress meetings.
- Verifies pay applications, prepares and approves change orders, and acts as a liaison between the public and contractors.
- Administers contracts and oversees the capital improvement program, right of way, and development projects to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications.
- Collaborates with finance personnel for bid responsibility review (e.g., equipment coordination and availability, labor force availability vs. existing contracts, claims history and prevailing wage violations).
- Assists with engineering consultant evaluations.
- Investigates resident and developer requests for service (e.g., performs technical research, searches for infrastructure maps/GIS information, drafts written responses and provides telephone responses concerning infrastructure, traffic, drainage, and other related issues).
- Reviews surveying, design, drafting, and cost estimates for engineering projects related to capital improvement projects.
- Maintains licenses and certifications as required.
- Maintains job safety requirements and adheres to OSHA safety standards.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in construction engineering or a related discipline from an accredited four-year institution, along with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience; or an associate’s degree or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school, with at least four (4) years of progressively responsible related experience.
- Evening and occasional weekend availability.
- ADA certification; LPA certification or ability to complete within 2 years of hire.
- Desired: PMP, CPII, Flood Plain Manager, Sediment & Erosion Control or Stormwater.
- Demonstrates continued education in construction and engineering.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
- Carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions.
- Interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, picture, or schedule form.
- Apply management principles to solve problems.
- Exercise independent judgment and discretion.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers.
Qualifications
The City of Sunbury is a rapidly growing community located just 25 miles north of Columbus, Ohio in fast-growing Delaware County. Sunbury currently has nearly 8,000 residents and is issuing new residential building permits at a record pace. The City of Sunbury is planning for the construction of a new interstate interchange and parkway that will open approximately four miles of road frontage for new commercial and residential development. Another 1,600 acres of newly annexed land to the east of Sunbury is currently being planned for light-industrial development use. The City of Sunbury is growing in most every direction and dimension and is seeking a qualified Engineering Technician to provide expertise and initiative-taking construction management and execution.
Pay
Pay Range: $52k - $81k (pay is based on experience, skills, and qualifications)
