Engineering Technician

Actalent is seeking a field-based Engineering Technician to perform observations and assessments on construction materials across Iowa.

About the role

You will travel to various construction sites—from data centers to gas stations—collaborate with project managers and staff professionals, and document findings using a company-provided laptop. The position is contract-to-hire, based in Des Moines, IA, and requires 40–50 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Conduct observations and assessments on soils, concrete, asphalt, and masonry.
• Travel to construction sites throughout Iowa.
• Log findings and submit reports to a Project Manager via company laptop.
• Follow all safety practices and report any concerns immediately.
• Communicate testing and inspection results to team members, client/contractor representatives, and other key partners.
• Maintain quality standards throughout project duration.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geology preferred; Associate’s degree or relevant experience accepted.
• Valid Driver’s License with acceptable violation history.
• ACI certification preferred or willingness to obtain it.
• High School Diploma or Civil Engineering Degree.

Pay

Hourly range: $22.00 – $28.00. Individual compensation depends on qualifications, skills, experience, job knowledge, location, and internal equity.

Schedule

40–50 hours per week, fully onsite in Des Moines, IA.
