The Senior Engineering Manager, Individual Solutions Technology leads the high-performing engineering teams that deliver and evolve the core platforms powering Securian Financial's Individual Life and Annuity business. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of our technology capabilities by accelerating product innovation, modernizing business-critical platforms, and delivering technology solutions that create meaningful value for our customers and distribution partners.

Partnering across Business, Product, Architecture, Operations, and Enterprise Technology, this leader translates strategy into measurable outcomes that improve speed to market, strengthen operational excellence, and position Individual Solutions for long-term growth. This leader develops engaged engineering teams, fosters a culture of innovation and accountability, and balances strategic investment with disciplined execution to accelerate, innovate, and optimize the technology capabilities that power one of Securian Financial's most important businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Business Value Through Technology
    • Lead engineering leaders and teams responsible for Individual Life and Annuity administration platforms, illustrations, and related business capabilities.
    • Partner with Business, Product, and Operations leaders to prioritize technology investments that maximize business value and align with strategic objectives.
    • Translate business priorities into technology outcomes by balancing innovation, modernization, platform health, and operational excellence.
    • Establish measurable objectives that demonstrate the value of technology investments.
  • Lead High-Performing Engineering Teams
    • Lead and develop engineering leaders and teams responsible for business-critical technology capabilities.
    • Build an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture grounded in healthy accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation.
    • Recruit, coach, and develop engineering talent while strengthening organizational depth and leadership capability.
    • Empower teams to continuously improve engineering practices, delivery effectiveness, and customer outcomes.
  • Drive Engineering Excellence & Modernization
    • Ensure platforms remain secure, resilient, scalable, compliant, and positioned for future business growth.
    • Balance investment across new capabilities, modernization, technical debt, reliability, and operational health.
    • Champion modern engineering practices, including automation, observability, quality engineering, and continuous delivery.
  • Build Strategic Partnerships
    • Build trusted partnerships across Business, Product, Architecture, Operations, Risk, and Enterprise Technology.
    • Influence technology strategy by communicating business outcomes, technology opportunities, risks, and investment tradeoffs.
    • Manage strategic vendor and enterprise relationships that support delivery objectives and long-term platform capabilities.

Requirements

  • Progressive technology leadership experience leading engineering organizations through leaders and experience leading change, developing talent, and building high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success delivering enterprise technology platforms within insurance, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering, application architecture, systems integration, and modern technology delivery practices.
  • Experience partnering with business and product leaders to deliver measurable business outcomes through technology.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, influence stakeholders, and deliver results in a complex matrixed environment.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and executive relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrated open-mindedness, willingness to experiment, consistent curiosity, and desire to innovate using tools and capabilities such as AI to drive value.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Agile product delivery models, cloud technologies, DevOps, and engineering modernization practices.

Schedule

This position will be in a hybrid working arrangement. Associates are expected to join us 3 days each week in our offices if within a commutable distance (90 minutes). The policy allows flexibility for business and personal schedules.

Pay

The estimated base pay range for this job is $131,400.00 - $243,800.00. Pay may vary depending on job-related factors and individual experience, skills, and knowledge.
