Engineering Manager, Verifications
About the role
The Verifications team is responsible for a broad portfolio of screening products that empower informed decisions across Checkr's enterprise customers. Key responsibilities include employment and education verifications, drug and occupational health screenings, reference checks, and right-to-work screenings. These products must adapt to various compliance and screening requirements across different industries and regulatory environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the Verifications engineering team
- Own the reliability and quality of a broad portfolio of fulfillment integrations
- Partner with Product to define and execute the roadmap for employment, education, drug and health, and compliance products
- Drive technical strategy for scaling a complex, integration-heavy system
- Lead the team's adoption of AI-assisted development practices
- Represent Verifications in cross-functional planning
Requirements
- 4+ years as an engineering manager
- 8+ years as a software engineer
- Experience managing complex third-party integration environments
- Track record of improving operational metrics
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development and agentic coding tools
- Strong incident management skills
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Genuine investment in developing people
- A genuine A-player mindset with a strong bias for action
Qualifications
- Strong command of service architecture, distributed systems, and system design
- Experience working on regulated products where data accuracy and legal compliance are non-negotiable
- Ability to make prioritization decisions quickly and balance short-term reliability work against longer-term product investments

Pay
On-target Earnings OR Base Salary range (San Francisco, CA): $233,000 - $274,000 USD
On-target Earnings OR Base Salary range (Denver, CO): $197,000 - $232,000 USD
Schedule
Individuals are expected to work from the office 3+ days a week. In-office perks include lunch five times a week, a commuter stipend, and an abundance of snacks and beverages. A relocation stipend may be available for those willing to relocate to a Checkr hub location.
