Engineering Manager, Verifications

About the role

The Verifications team at Checkr is responsible for a broad portfolio of screening products that empower informed decisions across our enterprise customers. Key responsibilities include employment and education verifications, drug and occupational health screenings, reference checks, and right-to-work screenings. The role involves scaling the team to handle rapid growth, improving accuracy and turnaround times, and ensuring compliance with regulatory environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Verifications engineering team
• Own the reliability and quality of a broad portfolio of fulfillment integrations
• Partner with Product to define and execute the roadmap for various screening products
• Drive technical strategy for scaling a complex, integration-heavy system
• Adopt AI-assisted development practices and ensure quality and accuracy standards
• Represent Verifications in cross-functional planning

Requirements

• 4+ years as an engineering manager
• 8+ years as a software engineer
• Experience managing complex third-party integration environments
• Track record of improving operational metrics
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development and agentic coding tools
• Strong incident management skills
• Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Genuine investment in developing people
• A genuine A-player mindset

Qualifications

• Experience with service architecture, distributed systems, and system design
• Experience with regulated products where data accuracy and legal compliance are non-negotiable
• Experience with regulatory compliance and data sensitivity

Pay

• On-target Earnings OR Base Salary range (San Francisco, CA): $233,000—$274,000 USD
• On-target Earnings OR Base Salary range (Denver, CO): $197,000—$232,000 USD

Schedule

• Individuals are expected to work from the office 3+ days a week
