About The Role

We're looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager for the Radar Protect team. You're a player-coach who can build (write code + review PRs) and manage. This role is based in our NYC HQ. Radar Protect is a core product in the Radar platform, used by customers for fraud detection and compliance—critical to their operations. The tech stacks include mobile SDKs, frontend dashboards, server-side APIs, and data services.

How We Work

Most engineers at Radar are former technical co-founders or former interns from schools like Waterloo and CMU. We value engineers who are either Staff-level experts in one stack or "Multi-Stack" (working across mobile, frontend, backend, or data engineering). We prioritize shipping fast and engaging with customers, with a product vision of full-stack location infrastructure. Collaboration happens in-person at our NYC HQ, with weekly planning meetings on Mondays using Linear. Projects are led by an Engineering lead, an executive, and a Go-to-Market lead. Engineers drive what to build, engage with customers, and ensure their success. The Stack

• Mobile SDKs for iOS, Android, React Native, and more
• Web dashboard built with React
• API layer: Node.js TypeScript app
• Main backend: HorizonDB, a geospatial database written in Rust
• Infrastructure: MongoDB, S3/Athena, Redis, Airflow
• Deployment: AWS via Kubernetes on EKS using Terraform
• Most engineers participate in the on-call rotation
• Open-source contributions: OpenStreetMaps, MapLibre, OpenAddresses

How We Use AI

• Engineers choose AI tools, with Claude and Codex being the most popular
• Claude skills are actively developed, e.g., debugging HorizonDB
• All code changes are reviewed by knowledgeable engineers, with AI-assisted PR reviews
• Usage varies, but most engineers use AI tools daily or weekly
• AI is embraced for its potential while maintaining high coding standards

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across backend, frontend, and mobile tech stacks
• Lead a team of 5 engineers across multiple stacks
• Work on core Radar products using TypeScript, Rust, React, and mobile languages
• Engage with Radar customers and prospects, incorporate feedback, and ensure their success

• Interest in talking to customers or prospects and making them successful

Pay

Compensation Range: $200K - $300K
