About the role
The Engineering Manager will manage a Team with up to 5 Engineering direct supports. They manage the Sites Engineering activities including day-to-day operations. The Engineering Manager will manage engineering projects through their entire lifecycle, including cost and benefit analysis, scheduling, and coordinating activities with stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Directs day-to-day operations of the San Antonio Engineers, managing a team of up to 5 Engineers.
- Sets clear goals and expectations for the team.
- Provides coaching, mentoring, and development of team members.
- Counsels and develops team members.
- Conducts performance reviews and career development discussions.
- Addresses performance shortfalls as necessary.
- Plans, prioritizes, and oversees engineering projects.
- Led projects from concept through capital proposal, approval, installation, and implementation.
- Maintains project progress and manages project risks.
- Ensures projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget and to the higher quality standards.
- Coordinates cross-functional initiatives with Operations, R&D, Commercialization, Quality, EH&S and other stakeholders.
- Provides technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team.
- Drives adoption of engineering standards and best practices.
- Translates business objectives into engineering priorities.
- Participates in long-term technology planning and innovation initiatives.
- Evaluates new tools, technologies, and processes to improve team and operational effectiveness.
- Allocates engineering resources across projects and priorities for the San Antonio Site.
- Manages workload of engineering team members.
- Reviews staffing needs and support workforce planning.
- Allocates resources as needed to support day-to-day operation and reliability of the plant operations.
- Serves as single point of contact for San Antonio Plant Leadership team in case of need for engineering support.
- Communicates project status, risks, and achievements to leadership.
- Collaborates with Operations, Commercialization, Customers, R&D and business leaders.
- Facilitates decision-making across departments.
- Manages expectations of internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline; broad applied experience across chemical, mechanical, controls and process engineering.
- At least 15 years of industry experience.
- Strong leadership, influencing, advocacy and coaching skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluency in English required.
- Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution and stakeholder management.
- Demonstrated competence in Safety Management within continuous processing and packaging environments.
- Experience with World Class Manufacturing, Lean, or similar methodologies, with a proven track record of driving measurable change.
- Strong understanding of Quality Assurance systems and GMP environments.
- Technical experience with high-speed packaging lines, thermal processing systems, blending systems, and CIP systems.
- Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, Smartsheets, and MS Project.
Qualifications
