Engineering Manager

About the role

Vanguard is collaborating with Hackajob to connect them with exceptional professionals for this role. This position involves managing and leading a team of technical support staff who design, develop, test, implement, and monitor software and tools. The role also includes working with business leaders to define scope and requirements, and planning and executing the development of various systems. Additionally, the Engineering Manager acts as a liaison with business sponsors and principals.

Responsibilities

• Hire, evaluate, and supervise a team of technical support staff.
• Provide guidance and training as necessary to develop the team.
• Set performance standards, review performance, and make informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable human resources policies and procedures.
• Deliver software releases relating to the product for the business units.
• Work with business clients to determine scope and develop environmental requirements for each project.
• Participate in the development of short- and long-term department goals.
• Maintain relationships with technical teams, IT, and business partners.
• Participate in the development of the department budget.
• Ensure staff comply with information technology and information security policies and procedures and verify that deliverables meet requirements.
• Present status, metrics, and department initiatives at meetings with management and project peers.
• Lead quality initiatives to improve the delivery of service levels.
• Work with senior management in the planning, development, and execution of short- and long-range goals.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Work closely with management to develop and implement staffing and operational plans.
• Monitor and report on service delivery metrics and overall performance.
• Develop and implement changes to department policies and procedures to meet changing business needs and to achieve department objectives.
• Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of eight years related work experience, with at least five years of project management experience.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
• Proven people leadership experience, including the ability to grow, develop, and support a team.
• Strong technical acumen with the ability to understand and interpret technical details.
• Strong expertise in IT project management, Agile methodologies, and SDLC best practices with experience in IT infrastructure, software development, and enterprise IT solutions.
• Understanding and management of key DevOps metrics.
• Proficiency in risk management, budgeting, and IT governance.
• Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and IT compliance standards.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Skills

• Full-stack technical experience.
• Experience with Angular 21, TypeScript, NX monorepo, Module Federation, SSR, Preact for the frontend team.
• Experience with TypeScript/Nest/Node, Java/Spring, GraphQL/REST for the backend team.
• Experience with Cloud services such as ECS/Fargate, API Gateway, S3/CloudFront, IAM.
• Experience with testing/quality assurance tools like Playwright, web-vitals, accessibility tooling.
• Experience with AWS, micro frontends, distributed web services.
