About This Role
At Verkada, we’re building the operating system for the physical world. The Access Control team develops the software that securely manages millions of door events daily, connecting cloud services, mobile apps, web applications, and edge hardware into a seamless customer experience. We’re looking for an Engineering Manager who enjoys building products, growing engineers, and solving difficult technical problems. This role is ideal for someone with years of production software experience who wants to multiply their impact by leading a high-performing engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of frontend and backend software engineers through coaching, regular feedback, career development, and hiring.
- Own delivery for major customer-facing initiatives from concept through production.
- Partner closely with Product Management, Design, Firmware, Mobile, and other engineering teams to define roadmaps and execute against ambitious goals.
- Drive technical direction while empowering engineers to make architectural decisions.
- Foster a culture of engineering excellence through thoughtful code reviews, design discussions, testing, and operational discipline.
- Help build highly reliable, observable, and scalable distributed systems that power millions of real-time events.
- Improve engineering processes, execution, and team health while maintaining a high quality bar.
- Participate in hiring and help build an exceptional engineering organization.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant experience in Python, Go, or React.
- 1+ years managing software engineers.
- Experience building production software across both frontend and backend systems.
- Strong software architecture and system design skills.
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems in production.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large cross-functional technical projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to attract, hire, mentor, and retain exceptional engineers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Pay
Annual on-target earnings (OTE) range for full-time employees: $200,000—$315,000 USD, comprised of base compensation and commissions (if applicable). Additional compensation may include sales incentives, discretionary bonuses, and/or equity in the form of restricted stock units (RSUs).
