Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Familiar with utility-scale solar project designs, including single-line drawings, civil, structural, electrical site plans, DC and AC wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts.
- Understand the construction applications of solar power plant design, including PV string sizing, DC and AC conductor and conduit sizing, and racking/tracker design and powering.
- Possess a knowledge of electrical and system studies required for plant designs.
- Possess a general knowledge of civil designs, including road design, plant grading design, drainage design, and permitting coordination.
- Comfortable traveling cross-country to perform site visits and provide technical support to construction teams.
- Have experience with substation design review and coordination at medium voltages (usually 34.5 kV) to the point of interconnect.
- Organizing and drafting engineering-related RFI’s and handling high-level problem-solving in coordination with pre-construction and operational counterparts.
- Have direct and relevant experience with the latest solar and battery storage equipment, including solar panels, inverters/transformers, racking systems, and battery systems.
- Develop, review, and approve engineering scope of work documents for external engineering partners.
Education And Work Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, technical field, or related discipline is required.
- 3+ years’ experience in the renewable energy/solar construction industry or direct engineering management on solar construction projects - solar experience is required.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and training other lower-level engineers.
- Knowledge of electrical design, materials, and methods of construction in power systems.
- Solar electrical systems background.
- Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) as it relates to utility-scale power plants is a plus.

- Good communication and presentation skills, including the ability to organize and present complex technical information effectively in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Highly organized and able to multitask multiple projects at once.
