About the role
This project measures whether state-of-the-art AI models can reason from first principles in an engineering domain rather than retrieve facts from training data. Selected experts design simulation-based challenges and gain visibility into the model's internal reasoning on their own tasks.
Responsibilities
- Write simulations and specification sheets in your area of engineering expertise.
- Define a set of specs with quantitative pass/fail thresholds, along with the task prompt.
- Design problems where the model must produce an artifact (such as controller gains, circuit parameters, or geometry) that satisfies every spec.
- Review how the model probes your simulation with a limited number of calls and submits a final design, which an agentic grader then runs and scores.
- Design problems you can't shortcut yourself, while still judging results rigorously.
Qualifications
- Deep applied expertise in control systems, analog or RF circuits, power electronics, or mechanical design (PhD or equivalent industry track record).
- Comfortable writing simulations in Python.
- Able to express acceptance criteria as quantitative, testable thresholds.
- Comfortable working in a browser-based studio and GitHub.
- Prior model-evaluation experience is not required.
Support
- Daily onboarding calls.
- Internal tooling built to help you work faster.
Compensation and Engagement Terms
- Rate: $60-$90 per hour.
- Fully remote, flexible schedule.
- Engagement as an independent contractor.
- Payments issued weekly via Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered.
- Project duration may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on business needs and performance.
- This role does not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
- Sponsorship for H-1B or STEM OPT candidates cannot be supported at this time.
