The position of Engineer VI within the Hawaii State Department of Education offers supervision and technical expertise across various engineering activities. Responsibilities
- Supervises professional and nonprofessional engineering personnel.
- Develops procedures and standards for engineering activities.
- Represents the organization on technical engineering matters within the area of specialization.
- Directs large engineering sections or assists in directing larger divisions or offices.
- Serves as a staff specialist responsible for major engineering projects or programs.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
- Graduation from a school of engineering in an accredited college or university.
- For some positions, a degree in physics, mathematics, or chemistry with at least 15 credits in engineering sciences.
- Administrative, professional, or technical experience involving the application and knowledge of fundamental physical and mathematical sciences.
- Progressively responsible professional engineering experience, including development and design of machines, equipment, structures, and power, water, communication, or transportation systems.
- Experience in planning, organizing, staffing, policy formulation, and implementation of engineering programs.
- Experience in interpreting systems operational requirements and designing standard procedures for efficient operational use or maintenance of facilities.
- Experience in evaluation, investigation, or survey of engineering projects, structures, devices, or services.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of engineering experience.
- Excess supervisory, staff advisory, or administrative experience may be substituted for engineering experience on a year-for-year basis.
- A professional engineering license is required for Engineer IV and higher levels.
